Social media has trended towards visual content. In the past two years, Facebook launched Timelines, Pinterest became the third most popular social network, and Google+ relaunched with a visual-centric interface. Visual content allows you to craft a distinct brand identity, garner new interest, and connect on an emotional level with customers and fans. In short, a picture is worth way more than a thousand words.
This certainly makes a lot of sense and while most of us like using visual elements, if you like me, we have been a bit slow it making use of this valuable component. Instagram is one area that has shown itself to be a viable marketing tool. Its pleasing to use because there is so much material around in the form of motivational quotes etc and you can put your own creative touches to images to help with your own branding.

A bunch of the most successful startups are actively using social media to gain an edge.Instead of shelling out millions of dollars for a Super Bowl ad, these small companies fight to generate buzz by creating viral content and encouraging shares and likes.
Once a product or service becomes the one everyone is talking about, customers gravitate toward it, eager to learn more.

Facebook announced recently that it will end the process known as the like gate, where users would have to like a page to enter a contest or receive more points in a game.
This will be a bummer for businesses, but I can see why Facebook would take this step
Facebook : Social Media's version of a Wrecking Ball.
Ever since the launch of Facebook, the social powerhouse website has destroyed barriers of all kinds.
This clipping is bang on in regards to the "LIKE" gate. My view would be the same as the majority of others that have posted their reviews: I agree 100% in destroying that feature.
When a company sends out their promotions through any social media site, they would be looking for an honest response, not some half whit "LIKE" just for someone else to advance on a game or gain a prize.
This article shows that the companies want to be recognized for their hard work, not just because their an ad on a mass website. The organizations want a real response, not a forced like. So I say its time to " unleash the Kracken " and let Facebook wipe away all the strings holding back those app developers and have a less cluttered website.
We want real feedback, not automated feedback.

What is the #1 piece of advice I have for your social media strategist, manager or you — a small business owner managing social media efforts?
The answer is simple: Stop talking about social media.
Type “social media” into a Google search bar and you’ll find roughly about 4.7 billion results in .30 seconds. Next, try “social media conference.” You’ll see something along the lines of 1.2 billion results in .25 seconds. Social media is important but I’d argue we aren’t celebrating it for the reasons we should. Instead, we are forcing social media to conform to traditional thinking and processes rather than adapting business philosophies and supporting methodologies to meet new opportunities.

Between the endless Euro drama and the Bitcoin brouhaha, currency has been much in the news of late. Most people would probably name the US Dollar as the dominant currency in this day and age.
Do people actually read the content? Will it keep them following you?

Excerpted from article intro by KISSmetrics:
"How do you successfully market your business on the world’s largest video site and #2 search engine?
This guide will provide answers to those questions and much more. Whether you are a YouTube beginner or a seasoned pro, this post will serve as an in-depth guide for marketing on YouTube.
YouTube is evolving from a “video-based site to a channels-based site where subscriptions rule.” With the new One Channel layout, your branding will work across all screens, you can turn non-subscribers into loyal fans, and you can show off more of your video content..."
The article is very long, but it is analyzed with a lot of information.

I like KISSMetrics because they do a great job of breaking down large long-term objectives into short action-steps that you should do daily. In this post, they tackle YouTube Marketing.
I was aware that by youtube marketing you can get some quite good results for your business. Yes, besides sales, but I heard something new - the idea of ranking your website in the generic search by using youtube only. Looking for a proof.

In Facebook's quest to generate more revenue, it's going to muck up your News Feed with auto-playing videos, the FT reports.
Facebook is set to launch video advertising in its newsfeed in July...
Facebook taking a queue from porn sites. Great.
Is there anything more annoying that an autoplaying ad that you don't care about ruining whatever it is you're doing? Every time I run across one, it's usually below the scroll where I can see it so I'm like, "where the hell is that noise coming from?" (Then I scroll down and find the ad playing, right click on it and use my Ad Block plugin to keep that server from ever showing me an ad again.)

SHARING is a key part of this web social economy we are living in right now. It started with content, (message boards, blogs) and now has moved on to cars (Zipcar), bikes (Citi Bike) and beds (AirBnB).
We are becoming more connected than ever before and OUR online profiles, that WE and OTHERS create about US is driving this sharing economy.
Marty, I know you and I have never met in person but via Scoop.it and social sharing we are connected. Interesting how business is changing.
