BBC launches 2012 Olympics live interactive video player with replay-friendly synced datas

BBC launches 2012 Olympics live interactive video player with replay-friendly synced datas | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

The video player combines the video with the associated data that is available to the BBC, creating a much richer experience for its audiences, according to Perry : “Where we are able to show athlete performance data, the key thing is that we synchronise the data and video together so that you always see the stats appropriate for the point in the video that you are watching,” advised Parry. “So if you decide to watch a video from the start, we won’t give you the results from the end. And if you are watching live, we won’t show the result of the Men’s 100m before you’ve had a chance to watch it!”

BBC R&D Project : FascinatE, a system for interactive view and navigation inside a ultra-high resolution video panorama

BBC R&D Project : FascinatE, a system for interactive view and navigation inside a ultra-high resolution video panorama | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

The FascinatE project is developing a system to allow end-users to interactively view and navigate around an ultra-high resolution video panorama showing a live event, with the accompanying audio automatically changing to match the selected view. The output will be adapted to their particular kind of device, covering anything from a mobile handset to an immersive panoramic display with spatial audio. At the production side, this requires the development of new audio and video capture systems, and scripting systems to control the shot framing options presented to the viewer. Intelligent networks with processing components are being developed to repurpose the content to suit different device types and framing selections, and prototypes of user terminals supporting innovative interaction methods are being built to allow viewers to control and display the content.

Flixmaster makes HTML5 video interactive

Flixmaster makes HTML5 video interactive | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Creators that want to build interactive video applications have largely been constrained by the lack of easy-to-use tools for doing so. Today those publishers can either use rudimentary tools like YouTube annotations to extend an element of choice to video applications, or they can turn to expensive, custom web design firms to build that interactivity into their videos.

Now one startup is looking to provide an alternative: Boulder, Colo.–based Flixmaster offers a platform for publishers like transmedia creators and interactive advertisers that provides most of the functionality that they desire, without requiring them to shell out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to build custom experiences.

The Ultimate Video Ad Campaign Will be Interactive and Run Everywhere in Real-Time

The Ultimate Video Ad Campaign Will be Interactive and Run Everywhere in Real-Time | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Some news came in today stating that TubeMogul has partnered with Innovid to bring a single login dashboard that offers both interactive online video advertising and real-time bidding and online video ad placement. I thought, 'this is the future of online video ads.'

Some of my major trends to watch at the beginning of the year were real-time bidding and interactive video ads (as well as connected TV ads, I hit the trifecta!). Today's announcement showed that both of those things are indeed gaining some serious traction, because now they're being offered in a single product thanks to TubeMogul and Innovid.

The future of online video advertising is definitely moving toward a more interactive experience, as it should because that is the main differentiator from TV ads. They're a total lean back, or get up and use the toilet, experience. They always have been, and will continue to be so until everyone has a connected TV and the broadcasters and TV advertisers see the true value of digital advertising which is, the interaction factor.

BBC introduces Red Button to the internet, thinks they'll be great pals

BBC introduces Red Button to the internet, thinks they'll be great pals | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Since 1999, the BBC's Red Button feature has delivered alternative camera angles, sports scores and the like over broadcast spectrum, but it's now set to become internet enabled. Channel surfers shouldn't expect a full-blown web experience, however, as the Beebs stresses it's not about to include everything and the kitchen sink in terms of functionality. Rather, their Connected Red Button aims for simplicity.

Punching the clicker could bring up the iPlayer to catch previous episodes of shows or save recipes from a cooking program for later viewing on a computer or smartphone. Companion screen experiences such as the Antiques Roadshow app, which is slated for a September release, are also part of their web-connected roadmap.

NHK Hybridcast making broadcast TV interactive with HTML5

NHK Hybridcast making broadcast TV interactive with HTML5 | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Hybridcast is an infrastructure system being developed by NHK, with a view to commercial use in 2013. This system combines broadcasting with the Internet, to enable a variety of TV-centered services.

At this year's NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories Open Day, NHK exhibited prototype receivers, developed together with manufacturers, as well as the service concept.

If used in conjunction with sports broadcasts, updates about the players and the game can be synchronized with the broadcast timeline and superimposed on the screen.

An upcoming ATSC standard supports interactivity

An upcoming ATSC standard supports interactivity | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

The killer app of computer interactivity, when considering popularity, is probably the Web browser. But interactivity requires more than just a browser; a rich user experience requires access to live and cached multimedia content as well as static pages. This month, we'll look at how these capabilities will be supported in an upcoming ATSC standard :

- Local interactivity with non-real-time services

- Receiver customization provides personalization

- Mobile devices support interactivity with other tools, too
