Three years ago we introduced our VidiGo Graphics product line as a viable means to create graphics for broadcast with Adobe Flash. Today we introduce the next generation of VidiGo Graphics, taking the full potential of the latest 3D capabilities of Flash and include full support for the Adobe AIR platform. Adobe AIR paves the way to graphics development needs for today and the future. In addition to Flash (Action script and SWF), web technologies like HTML5 allow for even greater choice of development environments to take the most creative and real-time connected graphics to air in no time. Use any device (PC, Mac, IOS or Android) to take control of your graphics workflow. Other than on the web, in broadcast there is a need for a high frame consistency and smooth playback. CBC deploys never.no interactivity suite to give viewers a voice during 'Power & Politics’

CBC deploys never.no interactivity suite to give viewers a voice during 'Power & Politics’ | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

never.no has announced that CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada's national public broadcaster, uses never.no's Interactivity Suite (IS) to display Facebook and Twitter comments, conduct real-time polling, and otherwise interact with audience members during its news show "Power & Politics."

The shows' producers use IS in the control room to ingest social media and user-generated content in real-time, moderate that content, and then put it on the air. IS supports many live production systems and protocols, and it gives day-to-day operators a single place in which to view incoming comments and interactions rather than monitor different services and social networks individually. Likewise, operators can control the on-air graphics from within the same interface.

VidiGo's Dutch Army Knife of Broadcast Tools

VidiGo's Dutch Army Knife of Broadcast Tools | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

"It all started with graphics," says VidiGo CEO Hans Krouwels. The Amsterdam-headquartered software company was founded with the idea that the production workflow could be simplified without losing quality. It now offers a range of products that cover the complete workflow of a professional TV production.

First came VidiGo Graphics, graphics engine for internal mixing of graphics with HD/SD-SDI input. After partnering with Adobe, VidiGo brought Adobe Flash to broadcast: With VidiGo Graphics, stations can use all the tools in Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Illustrator, Photoshop, and Flash Professional) and then render the files for on-air consumption in VidiGo Graphics.

"We realized we had a huge opportunity," says Krouwels. "We created VidiGo Graphics, based on Adobe Creative Suite, to run on standard PCs, allowing stations to maintain the same quality as high-end systems, at a fraction of the cost and many times the speed and flexibility." Since creating VidiGo Graphics, the company has added VidiGo ToolBox, VidiGo Live, VidiGo Works and VidiGo PlayOut.

NAB wrap-up: Social features creep into TV production gear

NAB wrap-up: Social features creep into TV production gear | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Over a decade ago, Lost Remote was the first blog to cover the National Association of Broadcasters convention — a huge showcase of television technology in Las Vegas — about how the internet was changing the business. This year, we returned to NAB to see how social TV is impacting production, from tech to workflow. Like the late 90s with the internet, it’s still early, but social TV is beginning to make inroads.

“There are so many technology providers here, and the interest in social TV is disproportionate to the innovation,” said Sam Decker, CEO of Mass Relevance. “It’s such a small part of all the real estate and discussions that are happening.” But he said he sees the technical crowd beginning to react to demands from producers who want more social functionality in the production process.

One of the biggest trends is focused on making it easy for producers to integrate social content on-air. Until now, displaying a tweet or a poll has been extremely labor-intensive (put poll on website, tease website from on-air, refresh poll results, create graphic of results, write them into script, drop it into the rundown.) But new partnerships are automating the entire process, tying it to social curation and the second screen.

ToolsOnAir and Molden Media Introduce Real-Time Social Media Integration at NAB 2012 [PR]

ToolsOnAir and Molden Media Introduce Real-Time Social Media Integration at NAB 2012 [PR] | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

In cooperation with Munich-based Molden Media GmbH, ToolsOnAir will be introducing just:social, the first application of its kind for integrating interactive social media into broadcast and IPTV. Based on ToolsOnAir´s proven real-time graphic engine, just:social provides a comprehensive toolkit of social media integration for video broadcasters.

As Molden Media´s Thomas Molden explains, the near-instantaneous nature of social media communication presents its own set of unique challenges for integration into real-time broadcast. "Social media integration will often be used only for a single show or live broadcast event," says Molden. "Traditionally the expense of integration has made it cost prohibitive for all but a few large-budget applications. Our just:social collaboration with ToolsOnAir provides a powerful, yet affordable platform utilizing ToolsOnAir´s proven timeline-based playout technology."
