Clip Art Is Gone! Here’s How To Find Free Images Instead | Daily Magazine | Scoop.it
Remember Microsoft's clip art? Neither did I until this week, when Redmond announced that clip art gallery is going the way of Clippy. Or, to put it another way: once upon a time, we were all... ...but now, anyone looking for classic clip art feels mostly... To be fair, the clip art gallery you remember from days…

Creating Great Images With Quotes Is Like Creating Flags For Your Fans To Wave: 3 Free Tools To Create Your Own

Creating Great Images With Quotes Is Like Creating Flags For Your Fans To Wave: 3 Free Tools To Create Your Own | Daily Magazine | Scoop.it

Robin Good's insight:

Sharing images with quotes, or using them for your Facebook or Google+ cover has become an effective method to provide fans with a visual symbol that represents one of their ideals, something that they deeply connect to and that they want to carry and wave to tohers as their own "flag".

The consequence of this is that appropriately selected images and texts, that truly represent the "spirit" of the community, receive much more "likes" and are instinctively shared by a much higher percentage of fans compared to other types of social status updates.

Here are three great free tools to create such visual "social flags" in a matter of minutes:

1) QuotesCover.com - it provides you with tons of ready-made quotes, provers and citations that you can further edit and personalize - it lets you customize fonts, positioning, background image, and throws in some nice touches as "soft-focusing" the background, adding drop-shadows to your text, or emphasizing specific words. Output ready also for status updates, e-cards and prints. Ad-supported. 9/10 - www.quotescover.com

2) ReciteThis.com - it helps you find a relevant quote by providing you with a number of preset genres, it makes it easy to edit it and then it offers a set of 33 pre-designed "visual cards" from which you can pick the one you like best as a support for your selected quote. You can preview the look of any pre-designed card with your quote by simply hovering your mouse on any such card. Ad-free. 7/10 - www.recitethis.com

3) Quozio.com - it allows to grab any text from any web page or to type your own quote, before offering a set of 38 predesigned templates that integrate a background photo and a particular font for your text. You can test and preview all available designs and then select the one you like the most. Ad-free. 7/10 - www.quozio.com

November's focus for Soical Biz is IMAGES (following the focus on Pinterest in October). There are some really helpful free tools available to help any entrepreneur, image-challenged or not, make an impact at image hungry social sites e.g. Pinterest, Facebook and Google+. There's no doubt images draw attention and drive visibility and traffic.

18 Free Image Sites and Tools for Schools via @EricCurts

18 Free Image Sites and Tools for Schools via @EricCurts | Daily Magazine | Scoop.it

A picture is worth a thousand words, but it might also be worth a thousand dollars if your school gets hit with a copyright violation claim. This happens to schools every year as students or teachers inappropriately use an image that they do not have the rights to.

Thankfully this does not have to be the case as there are loads of high quality pictures that can be used in school projects without any licensing concerns. These can include images that are released under creative commons, or are in the public domain, or simply are copyright-free. Of course depending on the license, it may still be necessary to cite where the image came from to provide proper attribution (and it can be a good practice to do even if not required).

How to Effectively Use Visual Content in Social Media Marketing [infographic]

How to Effectively Use Visual Content in Social Media Marketing [infographic] | Daily Magazine | Scoop.it
Social media has trended towards visual content. In the past two years, Facebook launched Timelines, Pinterest became the third most popular social network, and Google+ relaunched with a visual-centric interface. Visual content allows you to craft a distinct brand identity, garner new interest, and connect on an emotional level with customers and fans. In short, a picture is worth way more than a thousand words.

Roberto Ludovici's curator insight, January 6, 2015 5:28 AM
John Norman's curator insight, January 11, 2015 11:00 PM

This certainly makes a lot of sense and while most of us like using visual elements, if you like me, we have been a bit slow it making use of this valuable component. Instagram is one area that has shown itself to be a viable marketing tool. Its pleasing to use because there is so much material around in the form of motivational quotes etc and you can put your own creative touches to images to help with your own branding.

" You already know that well-researched, high-quality content is the backbone of a killer blog post. But don’t underestimate the importance of a strong visual component when you’re composing your latest and greatest update for your audience

The human brain processes images in as little as 13 milliseconds - less than the blink of an eye. "

Remove Any Image Background With Clipping Magic

Remove Any Image Background With Clipping Magic | Daily Magazine | Scoop.it
Clipping Magic is a free web app for quickly and easily removing image backgrounds.

When using images for PowerPoint presentations, blog posts and other projects, one may require removing their background so that they may blend in with the colors of your presentation slide, blog or canvas.  However, removing a background image isn’t easy and being a PRO at PhotoShop is not possible for everyone.

The True Size Of Africa

The True Size Of Africa | Daily Magazine | Scoop.it

This is another old classic image that I might have shared earlier but it merits repeating. As Salvatore Natoli (a leader in geography education) once said, "In our society we unconsciously equate size with importance and even power." This is one reason why many people have underestimated the true size of Africa relative to places that they view as more important or more powerful.

Maria la del Varrio's curator insight, December 5, 2014 11:01 AM

It is incredible big, but unfortunately most of the north area is cover by the big Sahara and most of the are is typically unfertilized.

Jason Schneider's curator insight, March 9, 2015 4:29 PM

As we can see, there's a little overlapping here and some empty spots but it's pretty accurate. The United States and China are in the top 5 largest countries of the world list and they still fit in the 2nd largest continent of the world, Africa. I'd like to see the size comparison between Africa and Russia. I did some research on that and it turns out that Russia is a little over half the size of Africa, maybe the size of the combination of the United States and China.
