Invisible Giant: Why New SEO Is So Hard To See via @HaikuDeck by @Scenttrail | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

There is a new invisible giant using 5 "tricks" so the "new seo" is getting harder and harder to see and understand. This Haiku Deck and Curatti blog post is about how to see the invisible giant. How to win hearts and minds online.

Why New SEO So Hard To See
* Google Float & Filter Bubbles.
* Social Media Marketing's Disappearing Act.

* Friends of Friends Marketing.

* Multi-channel Marketing.

* Web's "Fabric" Like Space/Time.

Adding a Curatti blog post at midnight tonight too.

Thought provoking on many fronts. The notion of need of predictive models (and other tools) to link content with visitors.

donhornsby's curator insight, August 5, 2014 8:02 AM

(From the article): Content Marketing is a tricky idea. You need to create authoritative content, but just enough that community is forming comfortably. Talk to much, in the wrong voice or at the wrong time sand you kill your fledgling community (easy to do).

$200 Million and Rising: Hollywood Struggles With Soaring Marketing Costs | Hollywood Reporter

$200 Million and Rising: Hollywood Struggles With Soaring Marketing Costs | Hollywood Reporter | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

In only a few weeks, Paramount'sTransformers: Age of Extinction has become the top-grossing film of all time in China, earning north of $300 million. What's more impressive is that Age of Extinction cost no more than $3 million to $5 million to market to Chinese moviegoers -- a stark contrast to the $100 million prints-and-advertising spend in North America. And multiple sources say studios now are shelling out an additional $100 million per movie to market this summer's big tentpoles internationally.

Indeed, with the exception of in China, Hollywood continues to wrestle with rising marketing costs, particularly overseas, which can make up 70 percent of a film's gross thanks to booming markets in Russia, Latin America and Asia. Two years ago, the cost had crept up to $175 million globally. Now, studios say it has hit the $200 million mark per picture -- a 33 percent increase from the $150 million spent in 2007 on the first....

This post is all about big budget hits. And I'm not talking about blockbuster box office sales. Its the cost of marketing movies internationally that's rising and cramping Hollywood's style.

Rethinking Redux Posts Thanks To Bill & Stephan | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

Redux Posts, or posts about posts, has been a great way to get a "second act" out of viral content. Thanks to a Bill Gassett post and excellent comments espeically from Stephan Hovanian the HOW TO do a redux post is changing.

Instead of creating a new post curate content from reactions, comments and ideas created by the orginal post back into the first post and then re-share on social media. Be sure to use @notify so people who's content you use know you revised the first post with their ideas to give content you've already created a new life without having to write a new post.

This post was written by Andy Capaloff for Curatti

I love this article because as curator and a business owner being a provacateur is essential in instigating conversation and taking a topic to another level which can lead to all kinds of opportunities. There's an art to asking questions and this just first of many pieces on this topic that you'll find on Curatti

Something to ponder.......

How can you use leverage questions to benefit your business?

Can monetary value be placed on questions?  Not really, as there are too many variables involved. But depending on the timing and manner of delivery, questions can be the ingredient that spurs innovation and growth.

Here's are a few highlights:

The rhetorical question can spur conversation and wake up a

slumbering ideas process

The joking question can lift a mood

The incisive question can take a brilliant idea into a different stratosphere

The personal question can tell a person struggling in solitude that someone in the world cares

Forget the Selfie…the Rise of the ‘Usie’ | Lost Remote

Forget the Selfie…the Rise of the ‘Usie’ | Lost Remote | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

The selfie storm reached its pinnacle at the Oscars earlier this year when Ellen Degeneres took the record-breaking selfie heard round the Internet. But was that actually an “usie”?

The AP recently reported on the growing trend of group selfies.“Usies are a growing trend that I think have far more social value than selfies,” said Michal Ann Strahilevitz, a professor of marketing at Golden Gate University in San Francisco who studies consumer behavior. “It’s magical capturing moments we share with other people.” In contrast to one-person selfies, usies are “more about the relationship, and less about you and your hair,” she said. The word — sometimes spelled usie, sometimes ussie — has been showing up in written material since at least April 2013, according to Ben Zimmer, executive producer of Vocabulary.com and language columnist for The Wall Street Journal....

Ten Creative Ways to Use Lists in Content Marketing

Ten Creative Ways to Use Lists in Content Marketing | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

Lists are everywhere and the headlines with lists are proliferating faster than rabbits imbibing unlimited amounts of Jack Daniels. Anybody and everybody is using embedded lists in their content. Or, they are writing “mea culpas” via Medium, exposing every aspect of their personal and professional lives.

Great content is somewhat list driven and we can all thank smartphones for some of this popularity. Your content is getting reduced to a small screen: so no lists, maybe no reads....

Need To Make MILLIONS Online? Don't Duel In The Sun, Us G+

Need To Make MILLIONS Online? Don't Duel In The Sun, Us G+ | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

This GPlus Post discusses how to avoid the lemmings traps so many Internet marketers follow the leader into. The post also shares @MarkTraphagen's brilliant idea - use the not yet competitively frenzied G+ environment as the HUB of all your Internet Marketing.

Sure I know we've been preaching TAPESTRY and I've been preaching that too. We are somewhere NEW and DIFFERENT now. The TIME it takes you to catch your competitors on Facebook and Twitter CAN'T GENERATE ROI.

You may win the battle, catch up on Facebook and lose the war. Don't do that. Look for BLUE OCEANS, places like G+ and video marketing (and those two ideas are related thanks to hangouts) where setting up a "virtual positive cycle" means in a short amount of time you will get MORE with LESS.

Don't duel in the sun just because everyone is doing it.

We Will Block You - Humans Are Changing So Should Your Marketing - Brian Halligan Hubspot CEO

We Will Block You - Humans Are Changing So Should Your Marketing - Brian Halligan Hubspot CEO | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it

Startups Listen To This
Startups live in a bubble. We believe our ideas will change the world. We are passionate and devoted. Problem is most people have LIVES (lol). To capture attention startups must understand "inbound marketing". Inbound marketing is creating great content and THEN talking to customers who come to you.

The nature of the conversation you can have with "customers who come to you" is very different than cold calling a VC. Reminds me of a Channel Advisor story. In the early days of the compnay Scott Wingo, its founder, couldn't figure out how to get Sand Hill Road VC to call him.

He went out to San Francisco and observed where major VC worked, drove and parked. Then he populated their route with signs with his logo. Sure enough THEY called HIM. When THEY call YOU the deal flow is better by a factor of 10. You give up LESS of your company to get the money you need to change the world.

Hubspot is a powerful "marketing automation" tool. Here Brian Halligan takes you through 4 wise inbound marketing tips (with some easier to execute than others):

* Create amazing content (this would be the hard one).

* Put your content into context (read this carefully).

* Go beyond marketing automation (agree).

* Use Social to create "leverage" and support for your content (AGREE).

I'm working on a post about why startups must have robust social media presence that will discuss inbound marketing's many advantages too. This post is a great primer.

PS. If you watch the video skip the first two minutes.  Great riff about the "science of marketing" around 14minutes into the video.
