12 things successful people do in the last 10 minutes of the workday

12 things successful people do in the last 10 minutes of the workday | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Perhaps you spend the last 10 minutes of your workday staring at the clock, counting down the seconds until you’re free. Or, maybe you bury yourself in your work until the very last minute — then you grab your stuff and go without saying goodbye to your colleagues.

If either of the above scenarios sounds familiar, it may be time to reassess your end-of-day routine. “How you finish the workday is very important,” says Michael Kerr, an international business speaker and author of “The Humour Advantage.” “It can set your mood for the rest of your day; it may impact your personal relationships, overall level of happiness, and how well you sleep that night; and it will set the stage for the next day.”

7 #Leadership Lessons From the Coach Who Mentored Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt, and Jeff Bezos

And then there was Bill Campbell, who died of cancer on Monday at 75. He was one of the most influential figures in Silicon Valley, yet was outside the norm in just about every way. Even though he was CEO of Intuit and was chairman of its board until his death, "Coach," as everyone called him, could not write a line of code. He grew up in the Rust Belt of Pennsylvania and attended Columbia only because his father knew the football coach there and he wanted to play. He got a degree in education and headed into a career as a college football coach. But somewhere along the way he took a left turn and wound up at Apple (where, among other things, he kept the company from chickening out and canceling its famous "1984" Super Bowl ad).

His death is a sad, sad loss. But we can all still benefit from his wisdom.

1. Care about people more than anything

Most Silicon Valley titans are familiar figures. They make commencement speeches that rack up millions of views on YouTube, get profiled by business websites such as this one, and have irreverent movies made about their lives.

11 Secrets Of Irresistible People

11 Secrets Of Irresistible People | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Some people, regardless of what they lack—money, looks, or social connections—always radiate with energy and confidence. Even the most skeptical individuals find themselves enamored with these charming personalities.

These people are the life of every party. They’re the ones you turn to for help, advice, and companionship.

You just can’t get enough of them, and they leave you asking yourself, “What do they have that I don’t? What makes them so irresistible?”

The difference? Their sense of self-worth comes from within.

Irresistible people aren’t constantly searching for validation, because they’re confident enough to find it in themselves. There are certain habits they pursue every day to maintain this healthy perspective.

#HR #RRHH 10 Toxic People You Should Avoid Like the Plague

#HR #RRHH 10 Toxic People You Should Avoid Like the Plague | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Toxic people are everywhere, and most of us know at least one or two. We may live with them, work with them, lead them, or know them socially. And if you've ever spent time with truly toxic people, you already know how destructive and exhausting they can be.

Just as with any kind of toxin, you need to limit your exposure and keep yourself protected. But a critical first step is to recognize when a person is toxic. Unfortunately, toxic people don't come with a warning label--but there are things you can look for.

Just like toxins in your air, water, or food, toxins in the people around you can cause serious harm but they don't come with a warning label. Here's a rundown of what to look out for so you can keep yourself safe.

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, March 12, 2015 1:24 AM

We have and we will continue to come across all of them,  arrogant co-workers, control-freaks, those who envy others even when job profiles don't match, then you have the congenital liars whom you can never trust. Added to the list of "toxic" people one should avoid include, the typical gossip mongers, those who would rather pass judgment one others, it is as if it is the only aim they have in life. All of them have one thin in common and that is  their toxicity. I just liked the write up and wanted to share it with all those who have perhaps had their share of toxic friends, the antidote for which, according to the writer is avoidance.

What Do All Mentally Tough People Do? By Chris Gaborit

What Do All Mentally Tough People Do? By Chris Gaborit | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

In all of these different contexts, one characteristic emerged as a predictor for success. It wasn't social intelligence, good looks, IQ, or physical health. It was "grit," which the dictionary also defines as "mentally toughness."

Duckworth describes this quality in successful people as "perseverance and passion to achieve long-term goals; having stamina; sticking with your future day in and day out and working hard to make that future a reality; a marathon not a sprint.”

Her studies have shown that there is a correlation between mental toughness and self-control. To achieve those long-term goals there are things mentally tough people avoid. Here are seven of those:

A psychologist shares the 10 qualities of the most authentic people

A psychologist shares the 10 qualities of the most authentic people | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

In a society roided-out on bling, cash, ego, nakedness, and status, we have lost our authenticity.

We have lost morals and what it means to be ourselves. So many are caught up in following the crowd they have gotten lost in it. How can any type of true success come from being a follower?

Followers are lost to their authenticity and are chasers of "status" and "wealth." Followers are competitive, insecure, and consistently positioning and provoking to one-up each other. The stand-out successes we all admire are not in the crowd, they aren’t chasing cash, or being cool.

It doesn’t mean they don’t love nice things or indulge in them; it means they approach success from a different mindset.

10 Words Smart People Always Use (and 7 They Never Do)

10 Words Smart People Always Use (and 7 They Never Do) | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
"If" improves performance when describing a hypothetical positive.

Here's a universal truth. No one likes to be wrong, especially in front of other people.

When you're facing a lot of "I don't knows" during a brainstorm or tough challenge, there's a word that can alleviate the pressure of being wrong and open up a pathway of critical thinking: If

Tim David, author of Magic Words: The Science and Secrets Behind Seven Words That Motivate, Engage, and Influence, employs this magic word in a very specific sentence I plan to borrow a lot:

"What would you say if you did know?"

As he explains, deploying the magic "if" allows those you're addressing to think hypothetically, taking away the pressure that might prevent them from volunteering an answer.

But" as in "I hear what you say BUT" . It means I haven't heard
"Hope" There is a complete lack of certainty and confidence in this word. Having a game plan beats "Hoping" to win.

#RRHH #HR Please Stop Saying These 25 Ridiculous Phrases at Work

#RRHH #HR Please Stop Saying These 25 Ridiculous Phrases at Work | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

At first, euphemisms surfaced in the workplace to help people deal with touchy subjects that were difficult to talk about. Before long, they morphed into corporate buzzwords that expanded and took over our vocabulary until our everyday conversations started sounding like they were taking place on another plane.

I understand the temptation. These catchphrases are spicy and they make you feel clever (low-hanging fruit is a crutch of mine), but they also annoy the hell out of people.

If you think that you can use these phrases without consequence, you're kidding yourself. Just pay close attention to how other people react to your using them, and you'll see that these phrases don't cast you in a favorable light.

#HR #RRHH Multitasking Damages Your Brain And Career, New Studies Suggest

#HR #RRHH Multitasking Damages Your Brain And Career, New Studies Suggest | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

You’ve likely heard that multitasking is problematic, but new studies show that it kills your performance and may even damage your brain.

A Special Skill?

But what if some people have a special gift for multitasking? The Stanford researchers compared groups of people based on their tendency to multitask and their belief that it helps their performance. They found that heavy multitaskers—those who multitask a lot and feel that it boosts their performance—were actually worse at multitasking than those who like to do a single thing at a time.

People who are regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information cannot pay attention, recall information, or switch from one job to another as well as those who complete one task at a time.

Multitasking in meetings and other social settings indicates low self- and social-awareness, two emotional intelligence (EQ) skills that are critical to success at work.

Well I have to say this would be a home run. Throughout high school, my jobs and even college, I have noticed that multitasking has become somewhat of an acquired trait. This article speaks on some key points that relate not only to PR practitioners, but aims towards students as well. Staying focus on one task at a given moment can help reduce the "noise" in your head; Keeping that in mind, working on one project at a time also provides you with a window for a more accurate end result
