What is Your Character and is it Helping or Hurting You as a Leader? | #LEADERship

What is Your Character and is it Helping or Hurting You as a Leader? | #LEADERship | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
Every day, it seems, we’re bombarded with news of leaders, corporate heads, politicians and other key figures in our society whose behavior shocks and deeply disappoints us.

Whether it’s egregious lying, or a lack of accountability, or rampant narcissism or indifference to others, we’re reminded daily of how important character is in our lives and in the successes (or failures) we create and achieve.

This article shares groundbreaking information about character, and how people at any level can acquire the character habits that can harness the power of doing good and achieving success.

This article, Scooped from a fellow pre-service teacher, Jan (thanks Jan!) spoke to me on many levels.  Although not directly linked to my teaching areas of health and science, these aspects of learning are often forgotten in the classroom.  I am a gentle, nurturing person and I hope that reflects when I am teaching.  Reiterating to my students the importance of being responsible, forgiving and compassionate to themselves and others is vital in creating working relationships in a classroom environment.

How to change with compassion

How to change with compassion | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
Attend almost any organizational training and you will hear some version of this adage: “The only constant is change.” The best organizations get great at handling change with care, but many organizations don’t. Unless change goes hand-in-hand with compassion, however, organizational change can also become workplace suffering.

Cindy Ricardo, LMHC, CIRT - Suffering causes people to want to recoil from the pain. Not reacting or judging oneself opens the door to self-compassion.

The science of compassion is growing.  We are wired to connect and to turn to other humans for comfort.

#HR Forming Stronger Bonds with People at Work

#HR Forming Stronger Bonds with People at Work | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Connecting with others is at the heart of human nature. Recent research emphasizes that the power of connections can help us be creative, resilient, even live longer. But we can easily overlook the importance of these bonds. As popular writer and researcher Adam Grant has noted, the pressure of tight deadlines and the pace of technology mean that fewer Americans are finding friendship in the workplace. In fact, many of us are further disconnecting from the people we work with: we’re more stressed out than ever, and half of us regularly experience incivility in our jobs.

How can we create possibilities for connection in what is sometimes a hostile atmosphere? We believe there needs to be more compassion.

Show your compassion.

Tom Wojick's curator insight, October 9, 2017 12:41 PM

Excellent article. All the points are important, but the practice of emphatic concern is critical in today's stressful climate.

Years ago, when I was a 23-year-old assistant HR manager at a large department store, one of our sales associates suffered a heart attack and died while at work. At the time, I was out of town, attending my grandfather’s funeral. Upon my return to work, my boss, Mary, told me what had happened and carefully gauged my reaction. She was concerned about me suffering two losses in quick succession. When I assured her I was OK, she asked me to check in with Scott, the department manager of the gentleman who had died.

Recent research shows that having a culture of compassion may not only build a happier workplace but also improve an organization’s bottom line. When we are supportive of one another there is often higher performance because team members feel valued and appreciated for their contributions and want to add more. Show compassion.

Leading From The Heart

Leading From The Heart | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
There is a right way and a wrong way to use the head as well as your heart in leadership.

Annette Schmeling's curator insight, March 4, 2013 11:29 AM

Contemplative Dialogue is a way of being that asks that we take a long and loving look at the real. Chris Argyris, Peter Senge, et.al., have given us the Ladder of Inference, and other tools, to be awake and aware and to picture the dignity and worth of each person. Our growth is gauged entirely by our capacity to love and be loved.

As Susan states in this article, "Relationships are built based on respect, growth, cooperation and communication." She also highlights the value of compassion and truth. The emotional connection, and our willingness to be present to the whole person, affirms the sacred worth and value of each and every person.
