Is Social Media Relevant? Take the Quiz

Before we talk social media, let's talk about the relevance of social media by taking a quiz. Which of the following is most likely to be true?

☐ Shou
Alfredo Corell's insight:
The Social Media Myth

The myth about social media in the classroom is that if you use it, kids will be Tweeting, Facebooking and Snapchatting while you're trying to teach. We still have to focus on the task at hand. Don't mistake social media for socializing. They're different -- just as kids talking as they work in groups or talking while hanging out are different.

Twitter en educación... ¿Para qué? ¿Cómo?

Twitter en educación... ¿Para qué? ¿Cómo? | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

15+ Ways to Create New Content from Old Content | Kim Garst

15+ Ways to Create New Content from Old Content | Kim Garst | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

As a busy business owner, you likely don’t have time to create new content at the rate at which your audience demands it. Yet, with content marketing now being the #1 driver of search rankings, you can’t afford not to be constantly publishing new content.

Fortunately, there are ways you can take your existing content and feed it to the content marketing beast. With a little bit of elbow grease and some creativity, you can edit and re-use what you already have, and turn it into something your audience can’t get enough of!...

Lots of good content recycling tips here. I have taken not of the details and intend to apply them. You should too. Well done Kim and good comments from Jeff Domansky

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, January 9, 2015 10:22 AM

This is what most content creators will do, recycle old content to produce new content from an older content that has been tweaked and modified. As an an active blogger, I do the same with great effect. The implications for educationists lies in their ability to re-visit old posts after a lapse of some time whereby they can tweak and retouch observations according to what they have done in class. It always makes sense to re-visit old content and see how this content can be made more relevant to existing trends. While recycling might be achieved through re-posting of content as it is, a more pro-active approach would be to consider changing the title, adding more content and in addition, making necessary changes and corrections to make 'Old content' more in line with the latest in the industry. No doubt it might be difficult for content creators to continue producing good content throughout, so it makes sense to try recycling older content.

Alfredo Corell's insight:
Why Resistance?

If you’re an educator, let us take you back to your early days when you were a student. Learning in schools was about daily lectures on various subjects and topics; and students using their textbooks as their only source of knowledge. You had no Google or any social media website like Youtube, Twitter, Wikipedia etc to help if you didn’t understand a lesson given by the class teacher. The only alternate to a school teacher was home tutions but that used to take away precious hours from the time that we could’ve put in the things we truly loved, such as playing football, music, dancing and doing things that every kid or teenager wants to do in this age.

How to use (and derail) social media in education | Ditch That Textbook | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it
Social media has changed the world, and it has the potential to impact education in powerful ways. It can be implemented in innovative ways or it can be totally derailed.

Via Adelina Silva
Alfredo Corell's insight:

Before, we networked and chatted at parties and get-togethers to get caught up. Now, we check a Facebook feed.

Before, we had to pay long-distance phone bills just to hear people’s voices. Now, we can video chat with Skype or Google Hangouts for free.

Before, we had to have a book published or a TV show broadcasted. Now, we can create blogs and podcasts to share our ideas with the world instantly.

Before, we waited for the evening TV news or the morning newspaper. Now, we can check instant Twitter updates on just about anything.

Social media has also changed education, but it hasn’t lived up to the vast potential it has.
