The group exhibition Her Voice - Echoes of Chantal Akerman presents photographic and video works by seven contemporary artists inspired by the work of Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman. Manon de Boer, Moyra Davey, Gabby Laurent, Frida Orupabo, Joanna Piotrowska, Collier Schorr and Carmen Winant explore what it means today to be a woman, artist, mother, daughter and lover.

To mark Isa Genzken’s 75th birthday, the Neue Nationalgalerie is honouring the German artist with the exhibition Isa Genzken: 75/75, showing 75 sculptures spanning all phases of her oeuvre from the 1970s to the present. Major works on display include the 10-metre-long Blau-grau-gelbes Hyperbolo ‘MBB’ (1981), Atelier (1990), Venedig (1993), Nofretete – Das Original (2012) and Schauspieler (2013).

"Chantal Akerman, Marianne Berenhaut, Sarah Kaliski and Julia Pirotte are artists. One makes films, the other sculptures. Another is a painter, the last a photographer. Four Jewish women. Coming from different generations, they emigrated or were born of stateless parents who fled Eastern Europe and the persecutions of the 1930s. All four lived in Brussels and have in common that they lived – directly or through their relatives – through the Occupation, that they saw and suffered deportations, that they lived through the disaster."

This exhibition presents 75 works by women artists who were born or live in what can broadly be termed Islamic societies. Frequently perceived as voiceless and invisible, they are neither. Each through her unique vision is fashioning not only her own definition of self but also helping to redefine and empower women everywhere and to challenge still-persistent stereotypes.

Art, Activism and the Women’s movement in the UK 1970–1990

What happens when someone survives?

The first chapter of the theatre trilogy Cadela Força by Brazilian writer and director Carolina Bianchi crosses various layers of time. Many of them filled with female corpses. Bianchi was so deeply shaken by the rape and murder of an artist who created a performance about her belief in human decency, that she started to weave a tapestry of stories around common narratives around rape and femicide. With her collective CARA DE CAVALO, she takes you on a journey – into the abyss, a hole in the middle of the desert, a deep- dive into a glass spiked with a date-rape drink – a descent straight into hell.

Le musée Marmottan Monet à Paris présente, dès le mois d'octobre, une exposition sur Berthe Morisot et les peintres du XVIIIe siècle. L'occasion de découvrir la filiation qui existe entre l'artiste impressionniste et Boucher, Fragonard ou encore Watteau.

"C’est une plongée dans une autre époque que propose le musée du Four de Casseaux. Avec l’exposition « Femmes du feu », les visiteurs vont découvrir la place qu’occupaient les femmes dans l’industrie porcelainière. Pas toujours favorisées.

Elles étaient journalières dans les carrières de kaolin comme à Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, où cet or blanc fut découvert par hasard… par une femme justement. Elles étaient également ouvrières dans les manufactures, décoratrices ou décalqueuses sur porcelaine. Une main d’oeuvre bon marché, deux fois moins payée que les hommes, à laquelle les propriétaires de carrières recourait massivement pour « éplucher » le kaolin. Plus tard, quelques unes se feront un nom comme artisane ou artiste après avoir suivi les cours de l’Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs à Limoges à partir de 1880. Une école d’art qui fut l’une des premières au monde à ouvrir ses portes aux femmes."

« Femmes du feu » présentée jusqu’au 30 décembre au Musée du Four des Casseaux, 1 rue Victor-Duruy à Limoges. Ouvert du lundi au samedi, de 10 h à 12 h 30 et de 14h à 17h30.

"Tove Marika Jansson had an impressive career as a writer and artist. She was active for over 70 years, and also worked as a cartoonist, illustrator and caricaturist. She is best known for having created the Moomin characters, but the exhibition Tove shows that her creativity extended far beyond this universe."

From March 17 to July 16, 2023, the Sale Chiablese of the Royal Museums of Turin is hosting the largest anthological exhibition ever organized in Italy of Ruth Orkin, one of the most outstanding American photojournalist, photographer and filmmaker of the 20th century.

Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938) lègue à l’histoire de l’art un corpus fascinant, à la fois transgressif et radical. Son caractère frondeur, son destin hors du commun, sa vie et son art partagés avec son fils Maurice Utrillo et son mari André Utter, n’ont cessé de nourrir l’interprétation de son œuvre. Chaque facette de l’épopée romanesque de cette artiste en prise avec différents cosmos dresse un portrait essentiel de la modernité naissante, apporte un éclairage sur une époque à la lisière de deux mondes, qui emmène le regardeur du XIXe au XXe siècle. Près de cinquante ans après sa dernière rétrospective en France, le Centre Pompidou-Metz lui rend hommage avec une ambitieuse monographie conçue comme un récit.

"Bouchra Khalili has put together a repertoire of life stories that talk about belonging, anti-colonial struggles and the strategies for resistance of subjugated communities. 

We are all witnesses of our own history, but whose history is consolidated as collective memory? Exploring modes of historiography and drawing on conversations and archival material, the artistic practice of Bouchra Khalili (Casablanca, 1975, lives and works in Berlin) is an exploration of anti-colonial struggles, post-colonial histories of liberation and solidarity. Interweaving historical accounts and real-life stories, her works reinforce the political agency of subjects rendered invisible by the nation-state model of citizen membership."
