 In the midst of Saudi women still struggling with basic rights such as driving and domestic abuse laws, Areej Adel Albagshy, a photographer studying in the United States, embodied their sufferings through a series of photos called “A queen, but..”.

 

Albagshy, 27, a scholarship student attends Emporia State University in Kansas City, started as an amateur photographer working as a photographer and a designer for different photography studios at a young age. Admiring her profession, Albagshy decided to study Art and specialize in photography after going to the States.

 

Recently, Albagshy released her latest project titled “A queen, but ..” which highlights women’s issues in Saudi society through a range of photographs. One photo portrays a woman who is beaten, with a bruised eye and a crown on her head held by a man. The image titled “I breathe their lies” was showcased in Albagshy’s first photography exhibition in the US.
