Content Marketers Beware - Rise of the Hackers Impacts You Too Now! via @sengineland

Content Marketers Beware - Rise of the Hackers Impacts You Too Now! via @sengineland | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Marty Note
As a content curator and publisher I've had content we wrote copied and brazenly stolen. Google's latest algorithm changes seem to be reducing whole cloth copying, but another and potentially more dangerous dragon is rising - the content hack.

It is possible to do all kinds of bad things to your content as this Search Engine Land post shares. This highly recommended post doesn't only share scary stories and examples of content hacks. The post also shares a great set of tools to help publishers ward off what may be inevitable - someone hacking their content.

malek's curator insight, February 10, 2016 11:06 AM

Scary, the hacked content algorithm is not working?   hacked content is still showing up in the search results.

***** Great suggestion from Therese Torris. Many tools I know and use, but many more I've never herd of but that sound interesting and helpful. Brands need to be or become authorities.

Some brands will have the authority high ground others will need to hustle. No matter where your brand currently fits on the authority scale there is more STUFF to curate than can be comfortably managed so tools will make the difference.

BTW curation is the key to authority because you can't create enough content to achieve authority status. Google requires curation so curation it will be :). Thanks,

Easel.ly has a lot of templates you can start with and each one is simple to modify. Just drag and drop the elements, add your text, and change the colors.

Social Media Publishing is dead - SMB Survival Guide: 3 Rays of Hope via @Curagami & @gdecugis

Social Media Publishing is dead - SMB Survival Guide: 3 Rays of Hope via @Curagami & @gdecugis | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Lions, Tigers, Bears & Content Shock & SMB Survival
Small to Medium Sized Businesses are overwhelmed. The clearest message we've received during our first six months creating our Startup Factory funded startup called Curagami is a clear protest. "Overwhelmed" is the most common adjective SMBs use to describe their situation.

Not hard to see why SMBs are feeling overwhelmed. Tactics that used to insure consistent yearly growth are sick. Tactics are drying up faster than ever.

SMB Marketing Tactics Costing More, Getting Less:

* Yellow Pages (near death).
* Print ads (near death).

* Val-u-pak coupons (near death).

* Coupons of any kind (losing relevance with smartphone users)..

* Groupons (blows brands up almost beyond repair).
* Email marketing (sick due to social / mobile web).
* Social Media Marketing (sick and getting sicker fast).
* Content Marketing.(content shock sick).

* Ecommerce (too many stores, same offerings).
* PPC (paying more to get less).
* Retargeting (cat out of bag, so sick efficacy declining).
* Video Marketing (steep learning curve, expensive).
* Viral Marketing (everyone has that cold now & hit or miss).
* Cause Marketing (not as unique as once was & live or die with partner).

* Celebrity Marketing (expensive and live or die with branded celeb).

* SEO (don't even get us started, all but gone, baby, gone).

3 Rays of Hope

1. Content Curation
Discussed by Scoop.it CEO @Guillaume Decugisin Social Media Publishing Is Dead As We Know It ( http://blog.scoop.it/2014/06/18/social-media-publishing-is-dead-as-we-know-it/ ).

2. Community
Banding and binding tribes of contributors, advocates and supporters to your cause.

3. Friends of Friends marketing.
Reaching new customers via WOM (Word-of-Mouth) supplied by fans, brand advocates and social marketing Sherpas willing to sacrifice and help your cause.

Curagami (http://wwww.curagami.com ) is focused on helping SMBs create sustainable community via the Friends-of-Friends marketing community generates.

Am Scooping Guillaume's post to use in our Curagami board meeting tomorrow and we are working on 3 cool ideas:

* Curagami SMB Survival Guide - one page "action focused" recommendations on the tapestry of marketing tools and tactics needed to know where online "success" lives these days.

* Curagami $25,000 SMB Survival Contest - Help in seo, content marketing and community building to make this holiday online selling season great.

* Curagmai SMB Survival School - 1 day training to support SMBs at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC.

Content Marketing Tools For Startups
I didn't write this post with #Startups in mind, but I could have. Startups wrestle with content marketing. I suggest these content marketing tools for any startup:

* Paper.li

* Scoop.it
* Google Analytics
* Google Adwords
* Google Plus

* A Blog (WordPress)

It is possible to change the world with those seven tools.

The linked post explains how I use Paper.li for everything from spidering the social web to reputation management. If you are a startup and don't know what either of those ideas are, trust me you will and I promise to post more about content marketing for startups soon.

I Scoop Therefore I am: 3 Reasons To LOVE Scoopit

I Scoop Therefore I am: 3 Reasons To LOVE Scoopit | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

I Scoop Therefore I am. 3 reasons to love Scoop.it for your company, brands or personal brand.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

3 More Reasons @Scoopit ROCKS

Speaking to Andrea of Top Of Mind PR the other day about two of my favorite things - @CureCancerStart and Scoopit - I realized something. I realized how far my content curation and creation has traveled in such a short time.

I found 3 more reasons I love Scoop.it during our call:

1. Community
Scoop.it is a community of rock star curators willing to share, teach and interact. If I've traveled some distance in my ability to create and curate content then it is because of lessons learned from Robin Good, Michele Smorgan and Karen Dietz.

2. Real Time Fast Feedback
Scoop.it's analytics are amazing and instructive. You have to be able to wield a machete since the data is BIG, but hidden inside the forest is amazing content marketing truth. Another big reason I've learned to be a better curator and content creator is thanks to Scoop.it's analytics.

3. Benefits of the Commons
I wrote about the Commons Revolution recently (http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/the-commons-revolution/ ) and I've created a Scoop.it feed dedicated to the idea of the commons (http://www.scoop.it/t/commons-revolution ). I just witnessed an example as my Scoop.it feed outranks my Atlanticbt.com/blog post.

The idea of the commons is WE contribute so the commons can return that contribution BECAUSE any commons will be more likely to become a hub than any website. Commons scale User Generated Content and they ping Google constantly.

Scoop.it has more than 43,000 inbound links because they have thousands of contributors all hoping to drive social traffic into their piece of the commons.

Other social nets look like commons but don't walk the talk. They don't pay back the contributors preferring to keep the benefits mostly to themselves. When using one of these pseudo-commons tools YOU must extract value and send it to yourself.

Scoop.it and Slideshare are real commons built to help their contributors. KUDOS to the Scoop.it team, a nicer group of genius menshes you will never meet.

Join Scoopit's Lean Content Movement

Join Scoopit's Lean Content Movement | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
The Lean Content Movement is curation, tools with fast feedback loops and writing less content that does more. Join the Lean Content Movement, here's how.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Listened to a great interview with Guillaume today on Blog Talk Radio. Guillaume and Scoop.it have created what is tantamount to a new movement - the Lean Content Movement.

Lean Content is about:

* Writing less, but creating more meaning.
* Using fast feedback loop tools such as Scoop.it.
* Cutting through the clutter with BETTER content.

"Better" in the Lean Content movement is when reader or creator gain insight faster and so realizing the promise of "do more with less".

Guillaume Decugis's comment, February 13, 2013 6:38 PM
Hi Therese - The way we see it (and please bear in mind that Lean Content is a concept still being defined), Lean Content is not about "Information diet" or trying to refrain from creating Content. We are definitely in a world of content inflation. So how do we cope with this? Part of the best practices we've seen being done come around faster content creation cycle, leveraged content distribution, content curation, etc... Faster content creation cycle is for instance something Leo from Buffer talked about at our first meetup group here in SF explaining techniques to become better and better at turning out quality content fast. What I call leveraged content distribution is the idea of using guest posting, slideshare or quora to give a bigger distribution to your content than your blog if it's nascent - techniques we used a lot at Scoop.it and that proved efficient for us. So it's not about zero growth (an interesting economic concept that I don't believe in but that's a different discussion ;-) but it's about doing more and better with your content strategy for the limited resources that startups, non-profits or even small teams within bigger organizations have. Makes any sense?
Therese Torris's comment, February 14, 2013 4:42 AM
@gdecugis. Get it. It's more rather about lean content production and distribution processes than about lean content..
