Encouraging or controlling? It seems that this what companies have been hesitating between when it comes to employee participation on social media. Beyond the control-freak dinosaurs, some good-intended companies have reasons to hesitate: employee participation can be hard to encourage and multi-voice communication can be tough. Content offers a framework for employee participation that addresses those concerns. By building and distribution internal topic-based content hubs, organizations can make it easier for employees to participate (sharing is easier than creating) while also providing alignment by curating that content to be on message.

Images have impact and you should use them. Jayson DeMers gives a lot of previous tips, including SEO tips, in this great post. In particular, changing or modifying images can be very interesting when you repurpose or curate content. Changing a picture to add context to your audience will help engagement while making it also more personal.

This was certainly an eye opener that many of the skills I am learning as a pre-service teacher in the areas of ITC and pedagogy relate directly to skills that are desired in the workforce. Curation can and should be used as a tool of teaching and learning itself.. It is not enough for us to simply present content and imagine that it will be so compelling that our audience will instantly change their behavior. The learning process is a complex one that, especially in experienced learners, requires a process of integration between new and old experiences. In many ways when we seek to ‘teach’ people, what we are really seeking to achieve is ‘integration’ between old and new experiences. For most individuals, this will be a process of curation; storing ideas, transforming them to fit with existing experiences and mental models, and, at some point in the future, sharing them through behavior. Thought of in this light, we can suggest that curation is a key part of the learning process, a key digital literacy that will be required for all current and future knowledge workers. It is not enough to be told; that’s grade school stuff. In the current working landscape it is constantly necessary to problem solve and innovate. That requires critical thought. As social media become more and more predominant as platforms of connection and collaboration, the need for creating and maintaining a PLN ( Personal/Professional Learning Network ) becomes more pressing. As teachers and educators we are expected to be on top of the latest trends that can inform and enhance our classroom teaching as well as our professional growth.We are also expected to know the web tools that our students use and the new ones we can use with them in the future; but this is not always possible and because not all of our time constraints it becomes difficult to keep up the the new releases . It is at times like these that you can call upon your PLN.
