It's important to recognize that a growth mindset is an overall paradigm for personal development rather than a pedagogical tool for measuring academic accomplishment. 5 Growth Mindset PracticesIn their groundbreaking book, Professional Learning Communities at Work, Richard DuFour and Robert Eaker say it clearly when pointing out the issue that comes about when change initiatives are considered "a task to complete rather than an ongoing process." If we really want to improve our schools, our work, and the education of our students, we can do so by adopting a new mindset -- for everyone -- that would include: - Being humble enough to accept that there are things about ourselves and our practices that can improve
- Becoming part of professional teams that value constructive critique instead of criticism
- Treating setbacks as formative struggles within the learning process instead of summative failures
- Realizing the restrictive role that timelines can play in reaching high standards, and using foundational philosophies such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to map systems so that everyone's growth is supported
- Create flexible grouping at all times so that nobody's trapped in any one course level or particular type of work.

Why haven't education reform efforts amounted to much? Because they start with the wrong problem, says John Abbott, director of the 21st Century Learning "Any kid can read a textbook — they don't need a teacher standing over them telling them to do so. They need teachers to inspire them to think about things in a much bigger way than they've done before." On a practical level, the most powerful lever for change, Abbott says, is people coming together to “rethink the role of community in the learning process,” agreeing how to divide up responsibilities among professional teachers and other community members, and then launching small pilot projects that are true to their new vision. These efforts will build on each other, he says, and large-scale change will follow.

It’s easy to assume that for extremely bright young pupils, life in the classroom is a snap. But when conventional school curricula fail to stimulate their hungry young brains, leaving them bored and stymied, these kids may get lost in the system. Some end up with C averages and slip into truancy, and many may never blossom to their full potential. It’s a big loss for lots of reasons, including the fact that these precocious kids represent a unique pool of talent for generating new ideas and innovations. And because of inadequate policies, we may be losing opportunities to nurture the Henry Fords and Marie Curies of the future. An average of 19 vulnerabilities per day were reported in 2014, according to the data from the National Vulnerability Database (NVD). In this article, I look at some of the trends and key findings for 2014 based on the NVD’s database. . #Mac OS X and #Linux had more #vulnerabilities in 2014 than ALL #Windows Versions in sum. .
Not surprisingly at all, web browsers continue to have the most security vulnerabilities because they are a popular gateway to access a server and to spread malware on the clients. Adobe free products and Java are the main challengers but web browsers have continuously topped the table for the last six years. Mozilla Firefox had the most vulnerabilities reported in 2009 and 2012; Google Chrome in 2010 and 2011; Internet Explorer was at the top for the last two years. To keep systems secure, it is critical that they are fully patched. IT admins should focus on (patch them first): - Operating systems (Windows, Linux, OS X)
- Web browsers
- Java
- Adobe free products (Flash Player, Reader, Shockwave Player, AIR).

The 27001 Academy has produced an informative infographic that illustrates key details of the nearly 800 reported data breaches in the U.S. that occurred in 2014 - up about 20% from 2013.
Surprisingly, despite the sharp increase in the number of breaches seen last year, the actual number of records that were compromised was down more than

12 Principles Of Modern Learning by TeachThought Staff What are the principles of modern learning?
